The Greater Naples Fire Rescue District currently elects its five Board of Fire Commissioners using two election areas. Commissioners are not required to live in the election area they represent.
The current election structure is:
- Two commissioners are elected by voters in East Naples.
- Two commissioners are elected by voters in Golden Gate.
- One commissioner is elected by all voters throughout the Fire District.
In August 2024, the Board of Fire Commissioners unanimously voted to draft a local bill to change the current election process. The District is required to place a referendum on the August 18, 2026 Primary Election ballot to let voters decide whether to approve the change.
- A “Yes” vote means all voters in the District would be able to elect all five commissioners (at-large elections).
- A “No” vote means the current election method would stay the same: two commissioners would be elected by East Naples voters, two elected by Golden Gate voters, and one elected by all District voters. The Commissioners would still not be required to live in the election area they represent.

Beginning with the November 2028 election, shall the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District’s Board of Fire Commissioners members be elected district-wide (at-large) rather than the current charter requirement that two board members are elected by the Golden Gate Division, two board members are elected by the East Naples Division, and one board member is elected district-wide (at-large)?

CONVERSIÓN DE LA JUNTA DEL DISTRITO DE BOMBEROS DE GREATER NAPLES A COMISIONADOS DE BOMBEROS ELECTOS POR TODO EL DISTRITO (ELEGIDO EN GENERAL)
¿A partir de las elecciones de noviembre de 2028, deberán los miembros de la Junta de Comisionados del Distrito de Bomberos de Greater Naples ser elegidos por todo el distrito (elegido en general) en lugar de lo que exige el reglamento actual, que establece que dos miembros de la junta son elegidos por la División Golden Gate, dos por la División East Naples y uno por todo el distrito (elegido en general)?
