The Greater Naples Fire Rescue District was originally established with two geographic subdivisions for the purpose of electing members to the Board of Fire Commissioners. Currently there is not a residency requirement for the incumbent to live within the subdivision for which they are representing.
The Board is comprised of five commissioner seats:
- Two seats are elected by residents of East Naples
- Two seats are elected by residents of Golden Gate
- One seat is elected at-large by all voters within the District boundaries
In August 2024, the Board of Fire Commissioners voted unanimously to draft a local bill proposing a change to the current election structure.
The referendum on the August 18, 2026 primary ballot will ask voters whether to adopt this change.
- A “Yes” vote would result in all five commissioner seats being elected at-large by all voters within the District boundaries.
- A “No” vote would maintain the current structure, with two seats elected by East Naples residents, two seats elected by Golden Gate residents, and one at-large seat elected by all District voters.

Beginning with the November 2028 election, shall the Greater Naples Fire Rescue District’s Board of Fire Commissioners members be elected district-wide (at-large) rather than the current charter requirement that two board members are elected by the Golden Gate Division, two board members are elected by the East Naples Division, and one board member is elected district-wide (at-large)?
